The FSM Department of Education announces that an application for funding under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) is being submitted for Federal Fiscal Year 2013. The FSM receives funding under IDEA to provide special education and related service programs for eligible children with disabilities and their families.
IDEA requires that the annual application for funding be made available for Public Review and Comment. Consistent with this requirement, The FSM Department of Education announces that the Annual State Application under Part B of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act as Amended in 2004 for Federal Fiscal Year 2013 will be submitted to the U.S. Department of Education, Office of Special Education on May 15, 2013.
The FSM Department of Education announces that a 60-day public review period and a 30-day public comment period will be available to allow the public an opportunity to review the application and to makes comments. The dates for the 60 day public review will be from March 11, 2013 to May 9, 2013. The 30 day public comment period will be from April 14, 2013 to May 13, 2013.
The FSM Department of Education will also be conducting Public Hearings in each State regarding the FFY 2013 Part B Application on any changes that are being proposed for policies and procedures used within the FSM Department of Education to administer special education programs. A schedule of the Public Hearing dates will be made available.
